Description:
Getting a crown for a damaged tooth can be a pain and not just in the tooth. The process usually requires at least two visits, a temporary crown and a two to three week wait for the final crown to be made. Here at Riggs Family Dental we are using CEREC technology to make crowns in one appointment while you wait, the process is usually completed in about an hour and half.
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology to allow Dr. Lopez to design and fabricate a perfectly fitting crown in the same day eliminating the need for poor fitting temporaries and goopy impressions. The process begins by preparing the tooth to receive a crown. A camera is then used to get digital impressions of your teeth. Using the special CAD/CAM software we will design a crown that is custom made to fit your tooth. Once the design is completed a machine will mill your crown out of ceramic in about eight to fifteen minutes. We custom glaze and stain your same day crown to match your existing teeth. The crown is then bonded into place using resin cement.
Same day crown technology is convenient and produces durable and lifelike ceramic crowns. According to clinical studies the success rate of CEREC restorations is 95.5 percent following a period of nine years and 84 percent after 18 years. The digital mapping technology of CEREC that charts the inside of the patient’s mouth completely accurately and down to the last detail ensures that there is no issue with inaccurate dental impressions that lead the patient to experience discomfort with bulky molds and unnecessary debris in their mouth.
