Description:
I was having difficulty getting all of my bearing in the plant lubricated. I could not understand why. We had maintenance personnel to do the work. We had grease guns. We had grease. We had a schedule. There should not have been a problem but I had a problem. My guys just weren’t doing all the bearings.
When I got to the bottom of it, learned that they were not lubing all the points for two reasons:
First, some points were in hard to reach spaces. It was difficult to get the coupler over the zerk fitting and still pump the gun. The second was plain fatigue. My maintenance guys were just tired from hours of moving around and pumping the grease gun.
I resolved the personnel issues (they should have said something and not just left the work un done) and then I found out about battery powered or cordless grease guns. I did my research and found that the first company to make them is Alemite. I also found out that Alemite is still considered the premier manufacturer of battery powered grease guns. They make two models 12 V and 14.4 V. The 14.4V gets almost twice the life as the 12 V. You can also get models with 2 batteries so that one is charging while you use the other. This is what I decided on.
Once I made that decision, I looked for the best price. By far the best price was at Liberty Supply in Arizona. They were selling the 2 battery 14.4V gun (model 585-B1) for less than anyone else on the net.
